Welcome back and welcome to Loyola! Over 2,040 new freshmen and 600 transfer students have joined us for the fall semester and we are delighted you are here.
We were busy this past summer getting the campus ready for your arrival — we finished and dedicated Cuneo Hall, and we’ve made great headway on the new Arnold J. Damen, S.J. Student Center, which will open for you at the end of March.
After tallying all the votes, the new student lounge on the first floor of the Halas addition will be named “The Den.”
With the beginning of our academic year in full swing, I would ask that we remember our friends at Loyola University New Orleans—and all in the Gulf Coast who are in the path of hurricane Isaac this week. Exactly seven years ago, Hurricane Katrina caused severe destruction from central Florida to Texas, killing thousands and leaving a wake of devastation. That August, over 320 Loyola University New Orleans students joined our student body for one semester before returning to New Orleans to continue their studies and to rebuilding their communities. Let’s pray for them this week.
I look forward to seeing you on campus.
