UPDATE: Threat leads Loyola to issue safety alert

UPDATE FROM LOYOLA PHOENIX
Students have received an update to their LUC emails that includes the following:

“Loyola Community,

This is an update about the situation that we alerted you to earlier. At approximately 12:15 p.m. today, a subject was arrested off campus in Rogers Park in the area of Pratt and Wayne. The suspect admitted to making the threatening phone calls and is in Chicago Police Department custody.   Although a suspect has been arrested, we encourage everyone to remain aware, vigilant, and to immediately report anything you believe to be suspicious or unusual to Campus Safety at 773.508.6039 or the CPD via 9-1-1.   Other Safety Tips to Remember:

  • When walking alone, always stay alert and tuned into your surroundings; keep your eyes up and off of your phone, iPod, etc.
  • Walk or jog in well-lit areas, and stay away from alleys
  • Please refrain from listening to headphones/earphones or talking on the phone while out alone, as this minimizes your ability to hear an approaching threat and it also advertises to a would-be thief that you may have a desirable item to steal
