The Chicago Shooting Report is a weekly list of shootings around the Chicago area compiled by The PHOENIX.
There are two important things to keep in mind. First, this list is not necessarily complete; some shootings may not have been reported or picked up by the media. Second, there will occasionally be an overlap between weekly reports due to delays in shootings reported by the media.
There are three colored balloons on the map below. Red balloons indicate fatal shootings, while yellow balloons indicate non-fatal shootings. To provide context for locations, the blue balloons represent Loyola’s two campuses, Lake Shore and Water Tower.
Here is the list for September 28 – October 7:
September 28 – (Marquette Park) 13-year-old Demaureye Macon was shot to death just after 8:30 p.m. on the 6600 block of South Talman Avenue after a gunman asked for his gang affiliation–even though Macon doesn’t have one. The seventh-grader at Fairfield Elementary School was shot in the chest and tried to run away, but was too seriously injured. He was pronounced dead on a nearby sidewalk.
September 28 – (Skokie) 17-year-old Niles North high school student Maxwell Gadau was fatally shot in the back while standing by a car in the 9200 block of Kedvale around 9:40 p.m. A 17-year-old girl was also wounded in the shooting. Gadau was pronounced dead at Evanston Hospital at 10:19 p.m. and the young woman is in critical condition.
September 28 – 24-year-old Miguel Hernandez was fatally shot by rival gang member Khalie Early while sitting on his porch in the 8500 block of South Escanaba Avenue. An 18-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man standing by a nearby train station were also wounded. early is being held without bond.
September 30 – (Logan Square) A 23-year-old man was shot in the stomach around 7:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Kimball Avenue. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.
September 30 – (East Garfield Park) A 17-year old man was shot when a man emerged from a vacant lot around 8:35 p.m. in the 500 block of North Sawyer Avenue and opened fire. The teen was struck in his foot and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
September 30 – (East Garfield Park) Two people were shot in the 3500 block of West Huron Street by someone riding a bike around 7:10 p.m. A 26-year-old man was struck in his arm and was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai, while a 19-year-old man was struck in his stomach and was listed in critical condition at Mount Sinai.
September 30 – (Humboldt Park) 25-year-old Shandel Adams was shot in the 600 block of North Ridgeway Avenue. He died at Mount Sinai Hospital at 4:17 a.m.
September 30 – A 16-year-old was fatally shot around 5:45 p.m. in the 7300 block of South Shore Drive when someone opened fire. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Camerion Blair of the 2600 block of East 73rd Street. He was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m.
October 2 – (Bronzeville) A 17-year-old boy was shot in the back about 4:30 p.m. on the 500 block of East 43rd Street after several men came up behind him and he got into a dispute with them. He was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
October 2 – An 18-year-old man was shot in the hand around 6:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of West Fulton Street and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition.
October 2 – (East Garfield Park) A 16-year-old boy was critically wounded in the 3900 block of West Wilcox Street when a gunman approached on foot and opened fire. He was shot repeatedly in the abdomen and buttocks and transported to John H. Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
October 2 – (Park Manor) A 23-year-old man was shot about 2:34 p.m. on the 7100 block of South Wabash Avenue and suffered a wound to his wrist. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital.
October 2 – (Englewood) A 19-year-old man was shot around 1 p.m. on the 800 block of West 66th Street. He suffered a wound to his arm and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital where his condition stabilized.
October 2 – (West Englewood) A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg about 10:10 p.m. when two young men stepped out of a gangway in the 6400 block of South Oakley Avenue and at least one opened fire. The boy was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and is expected to recover.
October 2 – (South Shore) 25-year-old Raymond Murray was found lying in the street in the 7800 block of South Jeffery Boulevard with a gunshot wound to his chest about 3:20 a.m and was pronounced dead on the scene.
October 3 – (South Deering) 20-year-old Tony McIntosh was fatally shot in the 10600 block of South Yates about 9:20 p.m. when a gunman walked up to his back porch. He was killed in front of his mother, who is a certified nursing assistant and performed CPR on her son before paramedics arrived.
October 3 – (East Garfield Park) A man was killed and three others were hurt around 3 a.m. in the 4400 block of West Van Buren. A 20-year-old was shot in the face and later died. A 23-year-old was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition, and the other two men (23 and 24) were taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and buttocks.
October 4 – (Greater Grand Crossing) A 20-year-old man was shot in the neck in the 7400 block of South Champlain and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
October 4 – (Roseland) A 24-year-old man was walking about 3:30 p.m. in the 10500 block of South Wentworth when he heard shots ring out and realized he’d been shot in the leg. He took himself to Provident Hospital of Cook county, where he was listed in good condition.
October 4 – A 17-year-old girl was walking on the sidewalk around 2:30 a.m. in the 5900 block of South Maplewood Avenue in Chicago Lawn when she heard shots and felt pain. She is in good condition after being taken to Holy Cross Hospital with a graze wound in her head.
October 4 – (West Garfield Park) 2-year-old Hezekiah Harper-Bey was shot while inside a vehicle in the 4400 block of West Van Buren Street about 3 a.m. He was shot in the face and died about 30 minutes later at Mount Sinai Hospital. Three other men in the car were wounded but survived.
October 5 – (Washington Park) A 14-year-old boy was shot in the chest around 1:20 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Vernon Avenue. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in serious condition.
October 5 – (Lawndale) A 14-year-old boy was shot in the 4300 block of West 16th Street in the city’s Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized. Preliminary reports say the shooting appeared gang-related.
October 5 – Two teenagers were walking through a vacant lot in the 3500 block of West Huron Street around 6:35 p.m. when they felt they had been wounded. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and their conditions were stabilized.
October 5 – (Englewood) A 37-year-old man was shot on the 5700 block of South Elizabeth Street shortly before 2:30 p.m. He suffered a wound to the left side of his chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
October 5 – (Calumet Heights) An occupant of a white SUV that was southbound fired shots at two teens, striking both on the 2000 block of East 95th Street about 10:18 a.m. The first boy, 17, suffered wounds to the left wrist and right thigh. The second victim, 18, was shot in the back. Both were taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
October 5 – (Englewood) A 19-year-old man was shot while sitting on a porch in the 6800 block of South Peoria Street around 8:25 p.m. He was struck in his shoulder and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he is listed in good condition.
October 7 – 22-year-old man was shot in the head in the Roseland neighborhood at 12:10 p.m. in the 10700 block of South Wentworth Avenue. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn
October 7 – (Humboldt Park) A 27-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by on the 3700 block of West North Avenue. The exact time of the shooting was not immediately available, but it was in the afternoon. He suffered a wound to his arm.
October 7 – (East Chatham) A 15-year-old boy was shot in the hand in the 8300 block of South Ellis Avenue about 8 a.m when a dark minivan pulled up and someone fired shots at him. He was in good condition at Jackson Park Hospital.
