Raising Money by Raising Adrenaline

When a tornado lashed through Fairdale and Rochelle, Illinois on April 9, devastating the towns and causing two casualties and countless injuries, the American Red Cross responded to the disaster by helping victims clean up their homes, providing food and water to the community and opening a shelter for victims to take refuge. Here at Loyola, the fraternity Delta Sigma Phi works with the American Red Cross as a philanthropic partner and raises funds to contribute to their responsive efforts, which is especially valuable at times like these.

Loyola’s Delta Sigma Phi hosted an “Amazing Race” event as part of their “Egyptian Ex

pedition” campaign on Sunday, April 12. The event invited students to form teams of four and compete in mini-challenges throughout Mundelein. Delta Sigma Phi kicked off its campaign on Feb. 24, encouraging each team to begin fundraising for the Egyptian Expedition, as teams would receive points for the amount of money they raised. Team Alpha Chi Omega brought home first place.

The Egyptian Expedition event raised more than $5,000 for the American Red Cross. Delta Sigma Phi will host a blood drive on Monday, April 20 to finish out its  Egyptian Expedition campaign.
