Studying is one aspect of the guaranteed path to success in school. There is no doubt about that. Often times, when students do poorly on an exam, one of the first questions they are asked is, “Well, did you study?” The more students study, the better prepared they will be are for exams, and thus the better their grades will be. This is important to keep in mind since final exams are roughly a month away. But don’t panic — here are some study tips to help make sure you ace your finals.
First, it is important to procrastinate. Often times, students says they are going to start studying at 7 p.m., in reality, he/she probably will not start until around 10 p.m. So instead of lying to yourself, why not just go ahead and designate extra time to have fun. A great way to kill time before studying is to watch Netflix. Picking your favorite movie or TV show will put you in the right mindset for all the studying you have ahead of you.
Next, once you’ve opened your notes and textbooks to study, it might be helpful to play some music to keep you focused. Good examples of study music would be anything that gets you pumped up and ready to just sit down and work. Artists such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Ke$ha come to mind. Their lyrics are filled with subject matter pertaining to partying, going out and having a good time, which is exactly what you need to think about while preparing for that huge chemistry exam coming up.
It is likely that you’ll want to get on your feet and dance while listening to this music, and that is perfectly OK. Taking breaks from studying is important, so go ahead and have a 15-minute dance break as often as you find necessary.
Now that you’ve been studying for a bit, you’re probably tired from all the dancing. The best thing to do when this happens is to simply stop studying and take a nap. Proper rest is important to keep your mind fresh. The second exhaustion starts to creep up, just drop everything and climb into bed for a bit. Naps can range anywhere from 30 minutes to four hours; there is no right or wrong amount of time. But keep in mind: the longer you nap, the more rested you will be, and thus better prepared to study more. Ideally you should try to nap as long as possible.
Lastly, after taking a nap you will probably feel a little hungry. This is a great time to further continue your procrastination. You’ll want to be sure
you are full so you don’t get hungry while studying. It is best to feast after the nap. McDonald’s dollar menu is an ideal location for brain food that will keep you up and running for hours of study time. It is important to note, however, that McDonald’s is not the healthiest choice around.
It may seem like these tips are common knowledge for how to study properly, but many students fail to follow them and thus don’t perform as well in school. These tips are sponsored by the BBC, CNN, PEW Research, and BuzzFeed and will ensure your success for any future exam, project, assignment, etc. Sure, technically you could be studying the whole time, but that’s just depressing. You’ll be way more successful if you have a lot of fun while studying and have a good time.
