Loyola’s men’s basketball team placed fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) preseason men’s basketball poll.
The Wichita State Shockers, last year’s MVC regular season champions, were chosen as the favorite to win the conference. The Shockers received 42 of the 43 first-place votes in the poll, which is conducted by a group of MVC sports information directors, coaches and media members. The Ramblers were the only other team to receive a first-place vote.
Loyola returned four of its five starters and eight of its top nine scorers from last season’s College Basketball Invitational championship team. The Ramblers added sophomore guard Clayton Custer, who transferred to Loyola from last year’s No. 7 ranked Iowa State Cyclones, and sophomore forward Maurice Kirby, who was a redshirt freshman at Virgina Tech. Custer is ineligible to play for Loyola until next season due to NCAA transfer rules.
The Ramblers open preseason play on Nov. 6 against Lewis University in Gentile Arena at 7 p.m.
