A 13-year-old girl died May 16 after being pulled from Lake Michigan in Rogers Park, according to Chicago Police Department (CPD) News Affairs Officer Amanda Vidljinovic.

Three boys, friends of the victim, called for help when the girl went under in the 52 degree water, ABC-7 reported.

Chicago Fire Department and CPD responded to a call of a person in the water in Lake Michigan near 7700 N. Eastlake Terrace — Rogers Beach — around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to CPD Officer Michael Carroll. First responders eventually located the girl, identified as Tianna Hollinside, around 10:45 a.m. after 45 minutes under the water with the help of the CPD Marine Unit.

Hollinside was transported to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead, Carroll said.

Hollinside was from Jonquil Avenue in North Rogers Park, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
