A West Rogers Park man allegedly shot and killed his two children before turning the gun on himself, Chicago police said.
After police responded to a wellness check Monday morning at 11 a.m. in the 6200 block of North Richmond Street, they found the alleged gunman, a 45-year-old male, dead in the hallway from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to CPD.
The other two victims were a boy, Mason Sanders, and a girl, Addison Sanders, both 10, and were found with gunshot wounds, officials said.
CPD Chief spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi tweeted that the department’s hearts go out to the family of the victims.
“Our condolences go out to the family affected by the senseless murder suicide at 6200 N. Richmond. A father, cowardly took the life of his two 10 year old children before turning the gun on himself. The offender had no previous history with the Chicago Police Department,” Guglielmi tweeted.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office said since the man’s next of kin had yet to be notified, they couldn’t identify him, but The Chicago Sun-Times reported the shooter’s name is Derrick Sanders after talking with neighbors.
