The Loyola women’s volleyball team (15-10, 7-6) defeated Southern Illinois University 3-0 at Gentile Arena Oct. 29.
“Really proud of the team to win a gritty match, I wouldn’t say that we won our best but they made the plays when they counted,” head coach Amanda Berkley said after the match. “Points 20 and on I think that’s where we stepped up and made the plays.”
All three sets went back-and-forth, but the Ramblers heated up and came away with their 10th sweep of the year. Junior outside hitter Quinn Spieker finished with 12 kills and 14 digs, marking her ninth double-double of the season.
She said her success has come by making the most of every chance she gets to make an impact.
“Staying focused each and every play [is key],” Spieker said. “Every play there is an opportunity to do something when you touch the ball.”
Berkley said the team did a good job of passing and overall, ball movement was one of the main reasons the team was able to come away with a victory.
Loyola is next scheduled to play Valparaiso University Nov. 2 at Gentile in the second game of a four-match homestand.
