Loyola Cancels Class Thursday as Record Cold Continues

Loyola joined other schools, businesses and institutions across the city in announcing it will close all day Thursday due to the dangerously cold temperatures.

In an email sent to students and staff on Wednesday afternoon, the university announced all campuses will remain closed all day Thursday because of the forecasted persistence of subzero temperatures. Classes have been canceled since Tuesday at 5 p.m., and a previous announcement said classes would be canceled until 12 p.m. on Thursday.

The National Weather Service predicts a -36 degree wind chill and the possibility of snow on Thursday.

Campus buildings will be closed except the residence halls, dining halls and Damen Student Complex including the main parking garage, Damen Student Center, Halas Recreation Center, Gentile Arena and Norville Center for Intercollegiate Athletics, according to the university.

An alert sent out by LUCentral announced all organizations will not meet on Thursday as well.
