A capacity crowd will be on hand at Gentile Arena for the sixth time this men’s basketball season March 2.
The Loyola men’s basketball team’s last regular-season game against Bradley University is officially listed as a sellout on the Loyola Athletics website. The game, which is also senior day, is scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN2.
The #Loyola men’s basketball season finale against Bradley March 2 is officially listed as a sellout on the Loyola Athletics website. Would mark the sixth sellout of the season at Gentile Arena. #MVCHoops— Nick Schultz (@NickSchultz_7) February 25, 2019
The Ramblers, who currently sit in a three-way tie for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference with Drake University and Missouri State University, are 12-4 overall at Gentile this season and 7-1 in conference play. Three other conference games — against Illinois State University Jan. 12, Southern Illinois Jan. 27 and Missouri State Feb. 17 — were also listed as sellouts, but didn’t draw the full capacity of 4,963 fans.
The last time the arena filled to capacity was Nov. 27, when Loyola lost to then-No. 5 University of Nevada. The sellout for the Ramblers’ loss to Furman University Nov. 9 was due, in part, to a new ticket policy which allows students to sit in unsold seats, according to Loyola Athletics. Since there are no tickets left for the Bradley game, no overflow seats will be available and students will be restricted to the student section.
Gentile has seen an increase in overall attendance this year, with 3,645 fans coming out per game compared to 2,405 last season. Prior to the 2017-18 season finale against Illinois State Feb. 24, 2018, Gentile had only sold out once since 2003. The latest sellout marks the seventh since the end of last season.
The game against Bradley could have implications on Loyola’s seeding at the MVC Tournament March 7-10 because of the logjam at the top of the standings. The Ramblers still have a chance at the No. 1 seed, but could fall to as low as a No. 4 seed, depending on possible tiebreakers.
Loyola is next scheduled to travel to University of Northern Iowa Feb. 27 in its penultimate game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
