A student at Columbia College Chicago reported she was stabbed and robbed in Grant Park last week, but police have since said the report was unfounded.

The 23-year-old female victim said she was approached around 9:50 p.m. March 6 when the male offender grabbed her by her hair and dragged her to the side of a bridge, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD).

In a “crime advisory” sent to the Columbia College Chicago community before the report was considered unfounded, the school’s Office of Campus Safety and Security said the victim gave the man a debit card but had no cash. CPD spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi tweeted the day after the reported incident that video showed it didn’t happen as the woman reported.

“Case Update: Based on a review of video evidence, this incident is now determined to be unfounded and it did not occur as it was reported to police,” Guglielmi tweeted in a response to a tweet from WBBM Newsradio reporting the stabbing and robbery.
