A woman was knocked out and then sexually assaulted Wednesday evening just under a mile from Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus, police said.

A 31-year-old woman was walking near the intersection W. North Shore Ave. and N. Clark Street around 6:40 p.m. when she was approached from behind, according to a community alert released by the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The offender, described as male and possibly black or black Hispanic, put his hand over her nose and mouth. He smelled like alcohol and his hand was wet, the alert said.

The woman later woke up in an unfamiliar building after being sexually assaulted, the alert said.

Police urged people to be aware of their surroundings and contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8261 if they have any information.
