Police are warning the public to be on the lookout after a girl in Edgewater was inappropriately touched and grabbed in Edgewater Monday evening.

The girl was walking west on the 1000 block of West Thorndale Avenue — less than a mile from Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus —around 7:45 p.m. when a man approached her from behind and slapped her buttocks, according to a community alert from the Chicago Police Department (CPD). She then began to walk faster and the man grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her towards him, but she was able to break free and run away, the alert said.

The man fled south on North Kenmore Avenue, authorities said.

CPD described the suspect as a 30 to 40-year-old white man with short red hair, a red goatee, blue eyes and a tattoo on his neck. He was wearing a white Columbia jacket with brown flaps, according to the alert.

Area North detectives are still investigating the incident. If anyone has information call Area North detectives at 312-744-8261 or 911. Anonymous tips can be submitted to TIPSOFT.com.
