A man died after he was shot in Rogers Park Monday evening, officials said.

Tommy Sweet, 42, was standing outside in the 7500 block of North Rogers Avenue — 1.4 miles from Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus — at approximately 9:17 p.m. when an unknown person fired shots at him from inside a white BMW, striking him in the leg, abdomen and lower backside, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ronald Westbrooks said.

He was taken by paramedics to Presence Saint Francis in Evanston in critical condition and pronounced dead early Tuesday morning, according to Westbrooks and the Cook County Medical Examiner.

Nobody is in custody, Westbrooks said, and Area North detectives are investigating the incident. If anyone has information, call (312) 774-8263.
