Part of North Winthrop Avenue on the south side of Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus will be closed this week for the removal of the crane used to construct the $47 million Francis Hall, according to an email from Residence Life, the department at Loyola in charge of the dorms.
Officials said the street will be closed in front of the construction site. The crane disassembly is expected to be completed by Wednesday.
Francis Hall will have 280 beds for first-year honors students — who are currently housed in Campion Hall — and 108 beds for non-honors sophomores, officials previously told The Phoenix. The dorm is set for an August 2020 opening, The Phoenix reported.
The email said the construction project has officially “topped off,” and the main focus of construction will now be to enclose the building before winter hits.
