A man died after being shot Sunday morning in Rogers Park, about two miles from Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus, police said.

The shooting occurred in the 7600 block of North Ashland Avenue at about 2:10 a.m., according to Chicago Police Department (CPD) News Affairs Officer Michael Carroll.

Authorities found the victim — later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as 47-year-old Vance Willams of the 1500 block of West Jonquil Terrace in Rogers Park — in a courtyard with a gunshot wound to the chest, Carroll said. The incident is a possible drive-by shooting involving a black SUV, Carroll said.

Williams was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, according to Carroll.

Nobody is in custody. Area North detectives are investigating.
