A 36-year-old man died from a gunshot wound to the head June 28, police said.

Less than a mile from Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus in the 1400 block of W. Lunt, officers responded to a call of a person shot at 6:57 a.m. At the scene, they found an unresponsive 36-year-old male lying on the sidewalk with blood coming from the back of his head, according to Sally Bown — a Public Information Officer for the Chicago Police Department. One shell casing was also found at the scene.

The man was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was pronounced dead, Bown said.

According to Bown, one witness said he saw the victim and offender cross the street and heard one gunshot moments later. The witness said he saw the offender flee in a black vehicle that was parked down the street.

No one is in custody. Area Detectives are investigating.
