A man was shot during a gunfire exchange with Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers the evening of Dec. 8, police said.

While police were conducting a follow-up investigation on a domestic incident, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on the 6900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue at about 5 p.m., according to a CPD statement. The shooting was about a mile and a half from Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus.

Police said a man got out of the vehicle and shot at police. CPD officers said they returned fire and struck the man, who was then taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in “an unknown condition.”

Police didn’t immediately confirm the age or current condition of the man.

No officers were struck by gunfire and a firearm was recovered on the scene, police said.

The use of force in the incident is being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, and the officers involved will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days, according to the statement from CPD.
