The Loyola women’s basketball team’s matchup with the reigning Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) regular-season champion Missouri State was postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests in the Lady Bears’ program, according to a Jan. 6 announcement from the MVC. The games were set for Jan. 8-9 in Springfield, Missouri.

The release said the positive tests were “among Missouri State’s Tier I personnel, which consists of student-athletes, coaches, managers and staff.”

“The Conference will announce make-up dates for the series/games at a later date,” the release said.

This is the second-straight series the Lady Bears have postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests to start MVC play, after delaying the series against the University of Northern Iowa set for Jan. 1-2.

A Loyola Athletics spokesperson said there’s “no word on another non-conference game or a reschedule date for the [Missouri State series] as of now.”

The Loyola men’s basketball team postponed its series at Bradley University set for Jan. 3-4 after positive test results in the Braves’ program. The Ramblers filled that gap with a non-conference game against the University of North Texas Jan. 2.

If the Loyola women’s basketball team elects not to add a non-conference game, its next scheduled matchup is a home series against Southern Illinois University Jan. 15-16. Tip-off for the first game against the Salukis is set for 11 a.m. on ESPN+.
