Second-Straight Loyola Women’s Basketball Series Postponed

Steve Woltmann | Loyola AthleticsLoyola head coach Kate Achter talks to sophomore guard Jala Johnson (No. 1) and senior guard Bre Hampton-Bey (No. 23) against Indiana State University Jan. 2.

The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) announced Jan. 14 more changes to the women’s basketball slate due to COVID-19. The Loyola women’s basketball team’s home series previously set for Jan. 15-16 against Southern Illinois University will be postponed due to positive tests among the Salukis’ Tier I personnel — which includes student-athletes, coaches, managers and staff.

The MVC announced Jan. 30-31 as make-up dates for the series between Loyola and Southern Illinois at Gentile Arena. Tip-off for the Jan. 30 game is scheduled for 1 p.m. as a “digital exclusive production for ESPN,” according to the press release. The Jan. 31 game is set to tip-off at 5 p.m.

This is the second women’s basketball series to be postponed for Loyola. The Ramblers were scheduled to play Missouri State University on the road Jan. 8-9 but the games were rescheduled after the Lady Bears had positive COVID-19 tests in their program. This series has been moved to Feb. 27-28 in Springfield, Missouri.

Southern Illinois’ series against Valparaiso University — originally scheduled for Jan. 22-23 — is also postponed due to the Salukis’ positive COVID-19 tests. The series is now set for Feb. 27-28, but times haven’t been set yet.

The Ramblers aren’t scheduled to play again until the series against Bradley University Jan. 22-23 in Peoria. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 22 and 4 p.m. Jan. 23. Both games are set to air on ESPN+.
