A woman was taken to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation early Jan. 16 after she threatened social workers who were checking on her with a knife and barricaded herself in her Edgewater Beach residence the day before, police said.
SWAT teams were called to the 6000 block of North Winthrop Avenue in Edgewater Beach — just over a half-mile south of Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus — after the woman barricaded herself in a residence Jan. 15, police said.
Social workers were checking up on the woman, 54, who was experiencing a mental health crisis when she threatened them with a knife, according to Officer Michelle Tannehill of the Chicago Police Department’s Office of News Affairs.
The woman then barricaded herself in the residence and police were called to the scene about 1:45 p.m. Jan. 15.
The incident ended just before 7 a.m. Jan. 16, police said.
