A man drowned in Lake Michigan off the coast of Rogers Park Aug. 22, according to Chicago Fire Department (CPD) representatives and officials from the 49th Ward.
Around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the CFD Marine Unit was dispatched to Lake Michigan near the Tobey Prinz Beach Park (1050 W. Pratt Blvd.) in response to a reported drowning, according to CPD officials.
The body of the victim — who has yet to be identified other than being described as a male in his thirties — was later recovered, according to 49th Ward officials.
The National Weather Service Chicago released a Beach Hazard Statement around 4 a.m. Aug. 22, stating swimming conditions would be “life threatening” due to expected waves of up to seven feet and strong currents.
