An attempted armed robbery took place Friday morning about two blocks west of Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus, according to an email alert from Campus Safety.

Around 3:40 a.m. two individuals were sitting in a car at 1331 W. Loyola Ave. when two offenders approached them. Police say the victims of the attempted robbery have no affiliation with Loyola.

“One of the offenders displayed a black handgun and demanded the car keys,” wrote Campus Safety Deputy Chief Joe Bogdalek in the email. “An individual in the car began screaming, which caused the offenders to flee and allowed the victims to leave the scene.”

This incident comes one week after two crimes — one battery and one strong armed robbery — took place just blocks of the Lake Shore Campus, also.

The Chicago Police Department describes the offenders in today’s crime as:

  • Males
  • 19-20 years old
  • 140-160 pounds
  • One male was wearing a black mask, orange coat and dark pants
  • The other was wearing a black mask, gray coat, hooded sweatshirt and dark pants

Anyone with information is asked to call Campus Safety at 773-508-6039 or CPD at 9-1-1 or 312-744-8263.
