Loyola will host the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Tournament for men’s soccer and men’s golf for the upcoming 2019-20 athletic season.
The MVC Men’s Soccer Championship will be hosted at Loyola Soccer Park at 6336 N. Hoyne Ave. Nov. 13-17 while the MVC Men’s Golf Championship will be played at Flossmoor Country Club at 1441 Western Ave. in Flossmoor, Illinois Apr. 27-28, according to Loyola’s Athletics Department.
Loyola Soccer Park has been home to Loyola men’s and women’s soccer teams since 1996. The MVC Women’s Soccer Championship was hosted at Loyola Soccer Park in 2018. Loyola has hosted conference tournaments in the past when the Ramblers were in the Horizon League, but this is the first time Loyola has hosted the MVC Men’s Soccer Championship.
Neil Jones, the Loyola men’s soccer coach, said in a press release he’s looking forward to having the tournament at Loyola and giving students an opportunity to see the team in the postseason.
“We are extremely excited to host the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Championship here in Chicago,” Jones said. “It is a fantastic opportunity for our program, and it will be a great chance for Loyola students, and the local soccer community to see some top-level competition.”
For golf, the Flossmoor Country Club is not as close to campus as Loyola Soccer Park. Located about an hour and a half from Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus, Flossmoor Country Club is more than 100 years old. The course has hosted various golf tournaments including hosted the 2014 MVC Women’s Golf Championship.
Loyola men’s golf head coach Erik Hoops said in a press release he’s excited to play at Flossmoor Country Club, mentioning how successful the MVC Women’s Golf Championship was.
“We’re all really looking forward to hosting in 2020 at Flossmoor,” Hoops said. “They have done a phenomenal job with our women’s tournament for a while now, and we’ve been trying to get the men out there for quite some time. It is a championship golf course that will be a great test for all participants. They are very excited to host us and I know it will be a great championship at one of the most historic courses in the Chicagoland area.”
