Shots Fired Steps Away from Campus

Zack Miller | The PhoenixLoyola's Campus Safety alerted students of the shots fired incident via email late in the evening Aug. 20.

Shots were fired just steps away from Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus (LSC) in the 6500 Block of North Sheridan at approximately 10:06 p.m. Aug. 20, according to an email alert from Loyola’s Campus Safety.

Students nearby heard the gunshots at approximately 10:06 p.m. Aug. 20 and reported them to police, according to the email alert.

The suspect, who is described as a black male with dreadlocks wearing a white t-shirt and blue shorts, fired approximately four shots from his tinted black Chevy into a nearby blue Sedan, according to a witness. The two vehicles were last seen heading southbound on West Loyola Avenue. The victim is unknown at this time and the offender is not in custody, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD).

There have been no reports of damage or injury, but police were able to locate shell castings in the area, according to Campus Safety.

The incident is the second reported shooting within a mile radius of LSC in the past four days, and comes just days after a Loyola student was robbed near campus.

A man was shot and killed around the 1300 block of West Farwell, just about a mile from LSC, Aug. 16. One day prior, Aug. 15, a Loyola student was robbed near the Loyola Red Line stop. Neither of the suspects are in custody, according to CPD.

Campus safety continues to work with CPD Area Three detectives in this on-going case.

CPD urges anyone with information to contact the 24th district at (312)-744-5907 or call CPD at (312)-744-8263.
