Loyola Women’s Basketball Conference Schedule Announced

Zack Miller | The PhoenixSenior guard Janae Gonzalez scored 14 points, knocking down four out of eight three-pointers to give Loyola a 63-40 win against the University of Detroit Mercy.

The Loyola women’s basketball team’s complete schedule is finally set after the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) released the order of play for the 2021-2022 season Sept. 15

The Ramblers will open their season at home against non-conference competitor University of Detroit Mercy Nov. 9. They will then play two games on the road against fellow Chicagoland competitors DePaul University Nov. 12 and Northwestern University Nov. 17 before returning home to face Chicago State University Nov. 20.

Loyola will open conference play on the road against back-to-back MVC regular season champion Missouri State University Dec. 31 and then head back to the Land of Lincoln to play Southern Illinois University Jan. 2 in Carbondale, Illinois.

Unlike the men’s schedule, the Loyola women’s team will play their conference schedule without any interruptions from non-conference competitors. The Ramblers will play their first MVC matchups at home in a two game homestand against Drake University Jan. 7 and University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Jan. 9.

Loyola will then find themselves on the road again to face two central Illinois teams — Bradley University Jan. 13 and Illinois State University Jan. 15 — before heading home for a three game homestand against University of Evansville Jan. 21, Indiana State University Jan. 23 and Valparaiso University Jan. 29.

This stretch at Gentile will complete the Ramblers’ first trip through all of the MVC teams with the second journey through the conference beginning on the road Feb. 4 against UNI.

The Ramblers will play each of the MVC teams twice — once on the road and once at home — before finishing their conference play the same way it started against Missouri State, this time at home March 5.

Loyola will then head to Moline for the MVC “Hoops in the Heartland” Tournament.

The team seeks to return to postseason play after making its first postseason appearance in program history when it competed in the Women’s Basketball Invitational March 2021.

Several star players are set to return to the team, including the 2021 MVC Freshman of the Year sophomore guard Maya Chandler and All-MVC First Team selection senior forward Allison Day.

Loyola will first hit the court at Gentile Arena Nov. 9 against Detroit Mercy. Time and broadcast details have yet to be announced.
