Feelin’ 22: Loyola Men’s Basketball Ranks No. 22 in the Nation

Steve Woltmann | Loyola AthleticsThe Loyola men's basketball team broke into the AP Poll Top 25 for the first time in the 2021-2022 season Jan. 17.

The Loyola men’s basketball team (13-2, 3-0) was ranked No. 22 in the nation in the AP Top 25 Poll for the first time in the 2021-2022 season Jan. 17. This ranking comes after weeks of Loyola receiving votes but not breaking the official list.

Loyola received just one vote in the second poll of the season released Nov. 15, but the votes kept coming in for the Ramblers until they received 96 votes to take an unofficial No. 27 in the Jan. 10 poll. Nine weeks later, the Ramblers received 193 votes to grab their spot in the Top 25.

This ranking comes earlier than in the 2020-2021 season, with the Ramblers not breaking the list until the 12th poll released. Loyola held onto its ranking through the rest of the season before finishing at No. 17 after its March Madness run.

The Ramblers also come in at No. 22 in the NET Rankings and No. 29 in the KenPom Rankings, systems that rank teams based on statistics like difficulty of scheduling and win to loss ratio.

Loyola is looking to extend its winning streak to ten games when it meets the University of Evansville on the road Jan. 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago+.
