Man Arrested After Shooting at Police in Rogers Park

A man was arrested in Rogers Park Feb. 17 after he shot at police who were pursuing him for driving a reportedly stolen vehicle, authorities said. 

On Thursday afternoon around 1:16 p.m. the Chicago Police Department (CPD) arrested 23-year-old John Carew after he was seen driving a stolen vehicle from a previous incident. He started to shoot at police in the 6300 block of N Glenwood Ave, about 0.5 miles from Loyola’s Lakeshore Campus, according to CPD. 

None of the police officers on the scene were injured and they also didn’t fire back at the offender, according to an email from CPD. 

Carew was arrested and taken into custody, after trying to flee on foot, according to CPD. He was later transported to St. Francis Hospital for observation, although CPD said that he was without injuries and in good condition. 

Several felony charges have been filed against him, including reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated possession of a motor vehicle, according to CPD. 

Area Three Detectives have begun further investigating the incident, according to CPD.
