After finishing the regular season in the No. 2 spot in the conference, the Loyola men’s volleyball team (18-8, 11-3) took home six individual awards from the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA).

Five Loyola players were given accolades this postseason, with redshirt first-year outside hitter Parker Van Buren taking home two.

The Cross Plains, Wisconsin native was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year after tallying 357 kills — second in the MIVA overall — along with 101 digs, 51 blocks and 17 aces.

Van Buren was also named to the All-MIVA first team, one of three Ramblers to make it onto this year’s team. He was also joined by redshirt senior setter Garrett Zolg and redshirt junior outside hitter Cole Schlothauer.

Zolg leads Loyola in assists, digs and aces, with 804, 171 and 33, respectively. Although Schlothauer sat out part of the season due to an injury, he still was a strong contributor to the team in his time on the court, tallying 184 kills, 105 digs and 19 aces.

The other two Ramblers who received 2022 accolades were redshirt junior outside hitter Andrew Lyons and redshirt senior outside hitter Henry Payne. Lyons holds the highest hitting percentage on Loyola with .465, and Payne contributed 164 kills — third-highest on the team — and 101 digs.

After defeating the Lindenwood University Lions in the MIVA quarterfinals 3-0 April 16, Loyola is set to play its semifinal match against the University of Purdue Fort Wayne April 20. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. and broadcast information has yet to be announced.
