The Loyola men’s volleyball team is scheduled to take on Ball State tonight in the MIVA semifinals at 7 p.m. in Gentile Arena.
The Loyola men’s volleyball team swept Lindenwood 3-0 in the quarterfinal match of the MIVA Tournament.
The Ramblers will be the No. 2 seed heading into the MIVA tournament where they will face No. 7 seed Lindenwood University.
Loyola men’s volleyball coach Mark Hulse was named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Coach of the Year, the conference announced today. First-year setter Garrett Zolg was named MIVA Freshman of the Year.
As a first-year member of the Loyola men’s volleyball team, outside hitter Collin Mahan, 21, expected to watch and learn from outside hitter Thomas Jaeschke. Jaeschke ended up leaving Loyola after the 2015 season to play on the U.S. National Team — leaving Mahan to fill his role.
Many athletes have been playing sports for as long as they can remember. But, Loyola men’s volleyball senior middle blocker, 22-year-old Jeff Jendryk, has only been playing volleyball since he was 16 years old. Although playing for six years might seem like a relatively short time, Jendryk said that’s average for midwestern volleyball players.
Ranking sixth in the country and winning 14 of its last 16 matches, the Loyola men’s volleyball team (16-4, 6-1) is in the midst of one of its most impressive seasons since its two national championship campaigns.
The student athletes at Loyola try to support each other as much as they can. At volleyball games members of the men’s soccer and golf teams can typically be seen supporting their fellow student athletes.
