Floors two through 11 of Mertz Residence Hall on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus flooded in the evening Dec. 24, according to an email from Residence Life to the residents of Mertz.

The building has 19 floors total and is closed to students over winter break. Residents’ personal belongings can remain in dorms over break. The university did not clarify in their email if there has been any damage to personal items, facilities did write damage had occurred to carpets and AC units.

The university is addressing the issue with a licensed vendor, according to the email.

“University Facilities and our licensed vendor have assessed and are looking to move forward with a remediation plan,” the email writes.

Neither Residence Life or University Facilities did not immediately respond to The Phoenix’s requests for comment.

It is unclear at this time what the source of the flooding was.
