The Ramblers track and field teams walked away from two meets this weekend with a total of six personal records from the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Feb. 9 and five personal records at the Wisconsin Windy City Invite Feb. 9 and 10.
On the women’s team, fourth-year sprinter Jayla Johnson finished the GVSU Big Meet by breaking her 60-meter hurdles program record twice, running the qualifying round with a time of 8.65 seconds and then topping it in the second round with a time of 8.60 seconds in the finals.
In the five-kilometer, first-year distance runner Eileen Seebon recorded a time of 16:56, nine seconds faster than her previous best. Fourth-year distance runner Eva Bednard and third-year distance runner Aiden Grasse also set new personal records, with Grasse shaving one second off his final time of 18:09, while Bednard finished with a time of 18:57 — 10 seconds faster than her previous best.
On the men’s team, first-year distance runner Trent Anderson achieved a new personal record in the 3,000-meter, cutting four seconds off his previous best with a time of 8:30.
Meanwhile at the Wisconsin Windy City Invite, three women’s 3,000-meter participants made their way into the top-10 in program history.
Graduate distance runner Delia McDade-Clay earned a fifth-place finish along with a new personal best and the third fastest time in program history with a time of 9:29.
Third-year distance runner Grace Kuhn and first-year distance runner Julia Isham both joined McDade-Clay on the top-10 list with a sixth place finish at 9:33 and ninth place finish at 9:38, respectively.
Third-year mid-distance runner Jason Clayton led the Ramblers in the men’s 3,000-meter race finishing in seventh and landing a time of 7:59.
Graduate distance runner Francois Guilhot and second-year distance runner Jake Phillips both set new personal records in the 3,000-meter. Guilhot placed ninth with an 8:00 while Phillips finished with a time of 8:13.
The Ramblers will next compete at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship Feb. 23-24 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
