Loyola women’s soccer head coach Barry Bimbi was fired by the university on July 16.

Loyola Athletics confirmed Bimbi’s departure in a statement to The Phoenix. The department didn’t relay any further details regarding the move.

Members of the athletic department were made aware of the decision after an email was sent by Athletic Director Steve Watson. The reason for Bimbi’s release is unknown at this time.

Bimbi’s unexpected termination comes six months after the university announced they’d extended his contract through 2027.

Bimbi, who is the winningest coach at Loyola, is no longer listed on the Loyola Athletics official women’s soccer roster.

Loyola Athletics confirmed assistant coach Angela Staveskie has stepped into the interim head coach position for the season, which is set to begin Aug. 8 in an exhibition match against University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as they become available.
