Just two days before the regular season starts, Loyola Athletics announced the hiring of Gabby Whittinghill and Jim Schneiderhahn who will join the women’s soccer program as assistant coaches.

The announcement marks a continuation of the shuffle of the women’s soccer coaching staff following the surprise departure of former head coach Barry Bimbi in July. Angela Staveskie, interim head coach, said she’s excited for the new staff to interact with the current coaches and players and the experience they bring to the program.

Whittinghill was the head coach for the Elk Grove High School girls team for five years before coming to Loyola. During her tenure, her team had their first winning season in 2024. She’s also served as the athletic director for Chicago Public School’s Luther Burbank since 2022.

Before her coaching career, Whittinghill graduated from DePaul University before earning her Master of Exercise Science from Concordia University. She played semi-professional with the Chicago City Soccer Club from 2018-2023, where she served as captain and the leading goal scorer in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

“I am so excited to work with such a great group of dedicated athletes and coaches,” Whittinghill said in a statement. “I’d like to thank [Staveskie] for this opportunity; everyone I’ve met here has been more than welcoming.”

Schneiderhahn, a St. Louis, Missouri native, has over two decades of coaching experience. He previously served as an assistant coach for Purdue University’s women’s soccer program for nine seasons and led Illinois State University’s women’s soccer team to four consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Championships from 2011 to 2014.

He played as a goalkeeper at Benedictine College in the late 1990’s before becoming the men’s soccer assistant and women’s head coach. He also served as the head coach for Emporia State in Kansas. Since 1996, Schneiderhahn has been a staff assistant with the United States Youth Soccer Association’s Olympic Development program.

“Jim has a wealth of knowledge and experience having coached collegiate women’s soccer for over 25 years and achieving great success at this level,” Staveskie said in a statement. “His strength as a person and coach complement our staff and we’re so happy to welcome him to the Rambler family.”

The Ramblers will face Schneiderhahn’s former team Purdue University Aug. 22, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
