Chicago is expecting multiple inches of snow Wednesday, but don’t let the cold and precipitation stop you from getting out of the house and exploring the city.

Check out an indoor market in either Edgewater or Wicker Park, or participate in local arts events by attending the Senn High School Junior and Senior Theater Showcase or a photography exhibit at the Gerber/Hart Library and Archives.

Edgewater Indoor Market – Feb. 15

The Edgewater Indoor Market returns this Saturday for the second of its three-day run this year, according to the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce. Open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., entry to the market, located at the second floor ballroom of the Broadway Armory, is free and will feature over 30 vendors.

After this weekend, the last date for the market will be March 22. Loyola is a sponsor of the market and Loyola’s Urban Agriculture program will be in attendance as a vendor, according to the event flyer.

Ongoing until Feb. 28: Wicker Park-Bucktown “Winter Passport”

Photography Exhibit – Feb. 8

The Gerber/Hart Library and Archives recently opened a new exhibit, “Forbidden Love at the Desert’s Edge,” Sunday, Feb. 8. The exhibit is a display of artist Hal Shipman’s photography, which is inspired by found archives and the story of his great-uncle Bill Gavin — a closeted gay man who spent his entire life in the same west Texas town in the early 20th century, according to the gallery’s Eventbrite.

Shipman is a writer and photographer born in Denton, Texas who’s lived in Chicago since 1995. The presentation will be on display in the Sandfield Exhibition Gallery through April.

Senn High School’s junior and senior students will host a theatre showcase at the school’s Ramis Theatre Feb. 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 for the showcase’s first event, which are the junior and senior monologues.
