The Loyola women’s golf team traveled to Vero Beach, Fla. March 8-9 to compete in the Northern Kentucky Invitational where they finished fourth out of eight teams.

The Ramblers wrapped up the two-day tournament with a combined total of 624 strokes (322-302). St. John’s University took the top spot, finishing with a 617 (314-302), while Seton Hall’s first-year Marta Aguilar walked away with the highest overall finish carding a 150 (79-71).

The Ramblers were led by second-year Cassie Psuik, who tied for second place — her third top 10 finish this season — with a score of 151 (77-74).

Head coach Brandy Johnston said she’s happy with Psuik’s season so far despite challenges in the fall season.

“This is the third top 10 in the last four starts for Cassie,” Johnston said. “I’m so impressed by how she has turned her season around after a slow start in the fall. Her consistency these past few tournaments has been impressive, and I look forward to seeing what she does next.”

Not far behind Psuik were two other Ramblers who also placed in the top 10. Fourth-year Cate Reisinger scored a total of 155 (82-73) and placed in a tie for fifth place, and one stroke behind her was redshirt second-year Reese Clark, who tied for ninth with a 156 (82-74). Clark’s second round score also marked a new career best.

Fourth-year Jolie Brochu tied for 27th with a score of 164 (81-83), and two spots behind her was first-year Grace Hui, who finished in a tie for 29th place with a total of 166 (85-81).

Individually, second-year Grace Durkin, first-year Madison Haugen and second-year Amelia Gatti competed for Loyola. Placing in the top 25 was Durkin, who tied for 19th with a 161 (80-81), and Haugen, who had a total of 163 (80-83) and placed in a tie for 25th. Gatti came in 38th place with a 169 (94-79).

Johnston said she was happy with the team’s performance and the fight they showed.

“I am really proud of this team and the way we performed over the past two days,” Johnston said. “The conditions were challenging in the first round, as evidenced by the scores across the field. We battled the best we could and it was good to see we were in striking distance of first place after the first round.”

The Ramblers close out the month at the Georgia State Invitational in Johns Creek, Ga. March 24-25.
