The Loyola men’s and women’s golf teams competed at separate tournaments March 24-25, with the men attending the Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate in Litchfield, Ariz. — hosted by the University of Minnesota and the University of St. Thomas-Minnesota — while the women traveled to Johns Creek, Ga. for the Georgia State Invitational.

Men’s Golf

The men finished their 54-hole tournament placed ninth out of sixteen teams with a total of 872 strokes (294-289-289).

Iowa State University took the top spot with a total of 837 strokes (291-278-268), while the Cyclones’ third-year Zachary May took first place on the individual side, going ten under par with a 206 (72-68-66).

Redshirt third-year Zach Mulhearn led the Ramblers, finishing in a tie for 17th with a score of 214 (75-70-69). One stroke behind Mulhearn was third-year Charlie Kulwin, who finished with 215 strokes (70-72-73) and tied for 20th.

Third-year Ryan Walsh finished in a tie for 39th place and a total of 220 (74-72-74). Next for the Ramblers was third-year Sebastian Kasun, who ended the tournament at 223 (75-75-73) and a tie for 55th place.

Second-year Jackson Overton wrapped up the event, scoring a 229 (75-77-77) and finishing in a tie for 73rd place.

Head coach Eric Hoops said he felt the result was a positive one considering the group’s competition.

“Honestly felt pretty good about this week,” Hoops said. “I feel we’re trending in the right direction, and it was a very tightly packed board. Probably the strongest field we’ll see all year.”

The Ramblers’ next contest — the Don Benbow Invitational — will take place in Indianapolis March 31 to April 1.

Women’s Golf

The women finished the Georgia State Invitational in thirteenth place out of fifteen total teams with a final total of 960 strokes (322-313-325).

Queens University of Charlotte took the top spot in team play with 894 strokes (293-302-299). Individually, second-year Butpapaporn Sukterm from Lindsey Wilson College beat out teammate and first-year Jillian Fatkin by one stroke to secure the tournament’s top spot with a 216 (71-71-74).

Fourth-year Jolie Brochu led the Ramblers’ scorers with a total of 234 (80-74-80) and a 42nd-place finish. Two strokes behind Brochu was first-year Grace Hui, who placed 47th with a total of 236 (77-80-79).

Tied in 53rd were fourth-year Cate Reisinger (80-77-81) and second-year Cassie Psuik (81-79-78) with respective totals of 238.

Redshirt second-year Reese Clark finished the tournament for the Ramblers with a total 258 strokes (82-85-91) and a finish in 82nd.

Head coach Brandy Johnston said the team plans on reviewing the missteps and looking forward to new horizons.

“It was a tough tournament for us this week,” Johnston said. “We definitely didn’t play at the level we are capable of. We’ll take a look at where things went wrong and get to work this week and next week, so that we’re ready to go for the Bowling Green Invite in early April.”

The Ramblers will wrap up regular season play April 4-5 at the Bowling Green State University Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio.
