This week brings the chance to immerse yourself in the culture of a city brimming with creativity. For the theater lovers, attend a showing of the “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” at Cadillac Palace Theatre. If you’re an art lover, consider attending the Ralph Arnold Gallery’s new exhibit opening. 

If the art world isn’t your area, purchase a ticket to the Cubs’ home opener and get excited with the rest of the city for the upcoming and long-awaited baseball season. 

“Moulin Rouge! The Musical”: April 2

Moulin Rouge! The Musical” opens this Wednesday, April 2 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre. Based on the 2001 movie and a recipient of 10 Tony awards, the two-and-a-half-hour-long musical will run until April 20, with most showings around 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Opening night tickets range from $36 to $167.

Opening Night Ralph Arnold Gallery: April 3

A new exhibit opens this Thursday, April 3 at Loyola’s Ralph Arnold Gallery, titled “How Often Are You Photographed Without Your Permission?” by multimedia artist Ayana Evans. The opening reception will run from 5 to 7 p.m., with free food and drinks served at 5 and a walk-through of the exhibit led by Evans at 5:30. The exhibit will run till May 10 and is free to all visitors.

41st Chicago Latino Film Festival: April 3-14

The 41st Chicago Latino Film Festival opens this Thursday, April 3 with an opening night gala following the screening and U.S. premiere of “Dear Gentlemen / Estimados Señores” by Colombian director Patricia Castañeda. 

The festival will run until April 14 with daily showings of feature, short and documentary films by artists all over Latin America, the Caribbean, the U.S., Spain and Portugal.

Produced by the International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago, the event first began in 1980 with just 14 films projected onto a concrete wall. It’s since grown to over a 100 films at three different theatres across Chicago. The first showing of the festival will be director Natali León’s “Through Heaven and Earth” at 5:30 p.m. April 4.

Cubs Home Opener: April 4

While they kicked off the Major League Baseball season last month in Tokyo against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Cubs are back in town for their Wrigley Field home opener this Friday, April 4 at 1:20 p.m. against the San Diego Padres. Tickets could potentially cost you over $200 to attend in person, but the game will also be streaming on the Marquee Sports Network and broadcasted on 670 The Score and WRTO 1200 radio.

Azazel’s Gift: April 5-6

Head to Loyola’s Underground Theatre this weekend to see Azazel’s Gift, showing at 2 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. The show, which is a part of the university’s Second Stage Laboratory Program and is led by fourth-year Alex de Foy, recalls humanity’s inner struggle “through the eyes of the forces that would see it finished” and is influenced by “research into the origins and evolution of societies,” according to the program description.
