The 2025-2026 President and Vice President ran on their platform ENGAGE — Equity, Network, Go Green, Accessibility, Graduate and Experience.
Third-year political science majors Erin Tylutki and Haaziya Saiyed were elected as President and Vice President of the Student Government of Loyola Chicago for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Results came in April 8 with over 1,400 votes across all candidates, nearly tripling student turnout from the 2024 election, according to Associate Justice of the Judicial Branch and Chair of the Spring Elections Board Khalid Hamden. Specific breakdowns of ballot results aren’t yet available and haven’t been released publicly in recent years.
Tylutki said she’s grateful to the student body for electing them in an interview with The Phoenix.
“I would first of all like to say thank you so much for believing in Haaziya and I,” Tylutki said. “I really appreciate it and am extremely grateful for this opportunity.”
The pair surrounded their platform on the acronym ENGAGE — Equity, Network, Go Green, Accessibility, Graduate and Experience, The Phoenix reported.
Tylutki said the next steps include seeing how they can tangibly achieve the goals they set during the campaign including fostering a better connection between the student body and the administration.
Incumbent Chief Justice Lindsey Elliott was re-elected and thanked the student body for electing her.
“I can’t wait to get to work,” Elliott said.
Elliott said some of the next steps include a legislation workshop to make sure every SGLC member starts off the term on good footing.
All senators who ran were unopposed, but the official results will be announced when all candidates have officially accepted their position, according to Hamdan. The deadline for senate candidates to accept their roles is April 9 at 5 p.m..
Tylutki and Saiyed ran against third-year political science major Ronan Valera and third-year global studies and political science major Areej Khan as well as first-year political science and sociology major Matthew Erlec and first-year finance major Cameron Wright.
Tylutki and Saiyed said they plan to begin looking into the cabinet selection process and how applications will be handled.
“The campaign we thought was hard, but it’s a lot easier to campaign than it is to be president,” Tylutki said. “The hard work starts today.”
The transition period begins April 22 — the last day for the current senate. There will be a five-minute break before the new senate begins their term, according to Hamdan.
SGLC will operate on a limited capacity over the summer, when Hamdan said representatives will sign executive orders and make appointments.
Tylutki said she and Saiyed are going to engage, listen to and represent the student body. She said they want to make Loyola the best it can possibly be.
Erlec, Wright, Valera and Khan didn’t immediately respond to The Phoenix’s requests for comment.
