The Loyola women’s golf team closed their fall season at the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational held at the Merit Club in Libertyville, IL Oct. 7-8. The hosting Ramblers finished in 12th place out of 13 teams.

Loyola finished the 54-hole tournament with a total score of 931 strokes (314-312-305), while the Illinois State University Redbirds won the overall tournament with a final tally of 878 strokes (292-294-292). Individually, University of Nebraska-Omaha third-year Katie Ruge took the top spot with a score of 215 (75-70-70).

Second-year Cassie Psuik led the Ramblers with a finish in 10th place and a score of 221 (71-76-74). Psuik also finished one-underpar in the first round, marking her second under-par round of the season.

At the end of the tournament, Psuik’s performance granted her a second top-10 finish in her career and her new career-best 54-hole score versus par.

Head coach Brandy Johnston noted Psuik’s performance as a bright spot in the team’s otherwise rough weekend.

“She put together three strong rounds and showed the level of play she’s capable of,” Johnston said. “She worked really hard all summer, and it was good to see her hard work pay off.”

Fourth-year Cate Reisinger finished in a tie for 39th place with a 233 (77-79-77), while second-year Grace Durkin (84-77-79) and first-year Grace Hui (85-80-75) finished the tournament tied at 60th with 240 strokes each.

First-year Madison Haugen, who played individually, finished with a total of 244 (79-83-82) for a 70th place tie. Fourth-year Jolie Brochu rounded out qualifiers, finishing in a tie for 73rd place with a score of 247 (82-85-80).

Another Rambler competing as an individual, second-year Amelia Gatti also posted a career-best tournament score with a score of 248 (81-86-81) and finished in a tie for 78th place. Her first and last round were the lowest scoring rounds of her career.

Johnston discussed finishing the season at the invitational on home territory.

“There’s no better way to end the fall season than three days spent at the Merit Club,” Johnston said. “We had a strong field of teams, amazing weather and a lot of great golf was played. We are incredibly thankful to the Parkinson family and the Merit Club for making this event possible.”

This tournament marked the end of the fall season for the Ramblers during which players had several top-10 finishes and career-best scores, while the team earned its best finish at sixth place. The Ramblers’ spring season will begin Feb. 3 at the Texas State Invitational in Blanco, TX.
