Men’s Golf Defeated in Final Fall Invite

In their final tournament action of the fall season, men’s golf traveled to Dayton, OH for the Dayton Flyer Invitational Oct. 21-22. After finishing round one in fifth place, the Ramblers fell behind, dropping to tenth of twelve teams in the following rounds.

Following their first team tournament win since 2021, Loyola looked to have a strong finish to their fall campaign. The same squad of players who had gotten them the win in the Throw Down Up Top a week prior were on display, but saw less success.

The first round ended with a fifth place standing for Loyola behind last week’s A10 Golfer of the Week, third-year Charlie Kulwin, shooting even with a 71 stroke pace. 

Things got progressively worse for Loyola in the second and third rounds as they went from eight over par in the first round to 13 over par in the second round. This was followed with 20 over par in the third — putting the Ramblers in a tie for the second worst team round of the whole tournament. 

Loyola’s struggles plagued the entire team, as every Rambler finished outside the top 20 individually. Leading Loyola was third-year Ryan Walsh, who tied for 21st after shooting a 221 (74-74-73) over the two day tournament. 

Placing next for the Ramblers was third-year Sebastian Kasun, who was derailed by a disastrous third round. Shooting 225 (74-69-82), Kasun was initially placed in seventh after his two under second round, but shooting 11 over par in the final round slid him down to 36th.

Following Kasun were third-year Dori Lee and Kulwin tied for the week in 45th place. Kulwin, coming off the first place finish last week, had a hot start in round one when he shot even par, tying him for 10th in the field. Back-to-back finishes over par at eight over and six over in the following rounds caused him to fall down the rankings to 45th as he shot 227 (71-79-77) in total. 

Lee stayed consistent over his three rounds finishing at three over par, seven over par and four over par, with a solid third round evening him with Kulwin at 227 (74-78-75).

Redshirt third-year Zach Mulhearn was the last Rambler to place for the team, ending his tournament by rounding out the top-50. Shooting a 228 (73-76-79), Mulhearn’s score worsened as he skidded from 21st to 50th by the conclusion of his rounds.

First-year Connor Woodin was the Ramblers sole individual golfer at the invitational. Woodin struggled mightily in the first round, tying Kasun for the worst Loyola round at 11 over par with 82 strokes. 

Woodin’s following two rounds were slight improvements as he shot 78 and 80 strokes, respectively, but his total score of 27 over par at 240 had him tied for 72nd.

With their fall season concluded, the Ramblers won’t return to the links until the return of warmer weather, when they start their spring season Feb. 10 at the A-10/MAC Match in Dade City, FL.
