The K-pop girl group released their latest album Nov. 1.
BABYMONSTER’s album “DRIP” isn’t just an introduction — it’s a statement.
With tracks blending mouthful rap verses, heartfelt ballads and playful innovations, BABYMONSTER has reshaped the K-pop scene with “DRIP.”
The K-pop girl group is comprised of seven members — Ahyeon, Asa, Rora, Rami, Ruka, Pharita and Chiquita. “DRIP,” which dropped Nov. 1, consists of seven new songs and two additional tracks from previous albums.
Kicking off the album with fierce energy, “CLICK CLAK” is a rap-only English track with quick beats and addictive lines.
Pharita, Rami and Rora, the group’s vocalists, tried their hand at rapping on the track, showing BABYMONSTER isn’t afraid to try new things.
“Click-clack / Heels tap / Walkin’ with my hips back/ Money, click-clack,” Chiquita and Rora rap.
The end of “CLICK CLAK” develops a club beat, setting a pushy, exciting tone for the rest of the album.
Title track “DRIP” brims with dance-filled energy. The heavy drums and EDM synth add a backing groove to the funky track. Ahyeon carries the bridge with a long-note, singing to impress a captivating sound toward the song’s end.
“Love, Maybe” switches gears from rap and hip-hop to a crafted ballad featuring the entire group’s vocals. The track reminisces on love’s inconsistency and the uncertainty of falling for someone.
Asa takes over the second verse and chorus with expressive lines, which showcase her vocal skills through a stable, controlled tone and subtle inflections that convey emotion without resorting to dramatic shifts. As a rapper, she got to showcase a more laid back tone to give listeners a new perspective.
“I’ve been guarded but I think you picked the lock / Picking petals, saying love me, love me not,” Asa sings.
“Really Like You” merges the carefree joy of teenage love with funky EDM and hip-hop vibes.
Shifting from lyrically dense tracks to a catchy rap-focused song, the album transitions to a more dynamic sound with “BILLIONAIRE.” The track is light, relying on rhythm and blues, while it blends swaggering, rapid-fire rap with reflective verses about balancing artistic freedom and fame.
“Feeling like a billionaire / World is mine life is so unfair / Money don’t compare / I got something rare / Feeling like a billionaire,” Rora sings.
“Love In My Heart” takes on themes of longing and affection. With high-energy rhythm and emotion, the track highlights the vocals of Rora and Chiquita. A pulsating drum beat is carried through the background and the girls sing with a buoyant tone.
“I won’t hold back anymore / Give you all of the love / In my heart / Feel like the world in mine,” the girls sing.
Ending the album with a duet from Japanese rappers Asa and Ruka, “Woke Up In Tokyo” samples the “Old McDonald” nursery rhyme. The duo were hands-on with the track’s production — an unusual act for debut K-pop groups, whose songs are either written by entertainment company teams or Western writers.
The quirky, rap-only adaptation adds a fun and unexpected flair breaking the album’s intensity.
“FOREVER” is a previously released track that takes on a soft, charismatic tone. The song is about how BABYMONSTER prevails in the music scene
“It’s bitter, it’s sweet, flying high in the sky / I’m spreading my wings like I’ma live / Forever (like I’ma live forever,” Rami sings.
With addictive beats, “BATTER UP (Remix) is danceable and filled with energy — ending “DRIP” with BABYMONSTER’s domination of the new K-pop music scene.
