An 18-year-old female Loyola student was struck by a Chicago Transit Authority bus around 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at the intersection of North Winthrop Avenue and West Sheridan Road, which bisects the center of the university’s Lake Shore Campus.
The bus was traveling west when it hit the student, who was using the crosswalk. The bus continued to travel west before it was made aware of the collision, according to a Chicago Police Department spokesperson.
The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition with unspecified injuries, according to CPD.
This collision marks the second time a student has been hit by a CTA bus in the last week.
An 18-year-old female was hit at the crosswalk of the intersection of West Sheridan Road and North Kenmore Avenue Feb. 4 just over a week ago, The Phoenix reported. The incidents occurred around 400 feet from each other.
Campus Safety responded to the scene and administered aid to the victim, Campus Safety Commander Tim Cunningham wrote in a statement to The Phoenix.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and being handled by CPD, according to Cunningham.
The student, who hasn’t been identified by Campus Safety, declined to comment.
The CTA didn’t respond to The Phoenix’s request for comment.
