Loyola Women’s soccer travelled to Eastern Michigan University and came home with a 2-0 win Sept. 11. Both goals were scored by third-year forward Zoe Hevey, as the Ramblers are now 5-1-1 on the season.

The first five minutes of the game featured two offside calls against Eastern Michigan. The next six minutes consisted of many Rambler shots from redshirt second-year forward Emily Rossi, Hevey and fourth-year defender Emily Roberts. The Eagles redshirt third-year goalkeeper Ella Holland saved all three shots.

Eastern Michigan quickly retaliated with a shot by third-year forward Aniyah Mack, caught by redshirt second-year goalkeeper Allison Deardorff.

In the 19th minute two fouls on Eastern Michigan’s first-year midfielder Kaylee Synk and third-year forward Olivia Sipsock gave Loyola a scoring chance.

The Ramblers’ early victory came in the 21st minute with the first goal scored by Hevey on a cross, the ball bouncing off the goalpost in the bottom right corner and into the goal. It was her first of the season.

Deardorff made her second save of the game 10 minutes after Hevey’s goal, blocking a shot by second-year forward Ciara Brown. With seven minutes left in the half, Eastern Michigan was called offside again.

Eastern Michigan received the first corner kick of the match in the 41st minute. After a scramble in the box, the ball was punted up the pitch. Shortly after, second-year defender Ella Fuller took a shot against the Ramblers, which went just up and over the goal.

Eastern Michigan was called offside for the fourth time in the game in the 42nd minute. In the final minute before half, Deardorff made another save against a shot by Brown, heading to the bottom center of the goal.

The second half started with Eastern Michigan being called offside within the first three minutes. The next four minutes consisted of four fouls—two apiece on Loyola and Eastern Michigan.

In the 53rd minute, the Ramblers had a corner kick, but it was punted up the field by an Eastern Michigan defender. Deardorff saved another shot three minutes later, taken by Brown again. The 62nd minute featured another corner for Loyola, which was booted up the field by an Eagle defender.

The Ramblers solidified victory in the 65th minute with Hevey scoring another unassisted goal for the team. It was shot from outside the box, giving her the first brace of her career.

A minute later, the Ramblers’ offence remained steady with third-year forward Jadyn Harris attempting a shot against the Eagles in the top right corner of the goal, saved by Holland. Mack also had another shot in the 71st minute of the game, but it went just past the goal.

A shot on goal, saved by Deardorff, came for the Eagles four minutes later when second-year midfielder Maya Marolly shot towards the bottom center of the goal.

After a shot in the 76th minute by fourth-year forward Molly Pistorius was blocked by Holland, the Ramblers were awarded a corner kick, but the ball was sent upfield by Eagle defenders.

With eleven minutes left in the match, Eastern Michigan was called offside yet again. Then two fouls — within two minutes of each other — were called on second-year midfielder Olivia Anderson and Hevey.

The Eagles received a corner kick in the 86th minute, but nothing came from it. The game ended with the Ramblers victorious due to Hevey’s brace.

Though the Ramblers defeated Eastern Michigan by two goals, Sandoval commented that they didn’t play to their full potential.

“While we were not our best today, we found a way,” Sandoval said. “Good teams find a way even when they are not their best.”

Deardorff had a season high with her seven saves of the game. This was also her sixth career clean sheet.

Hevey led the game with a total of three shots on goal. Rossi followed her lead with two attempts, one of them being a shot on goal.

The Ramblers head to Wisconsin for their match against Marquette University Sept. 14 for a 4 p.m. start. Streaming details have yet to be announced.
