The beginning of fall and the last of warm weather brings color to the leaves and a plethora of events and activities to the city.
Get your fingers sticky on all things apple at the Lincoln Square Apple Fest or head down to Lincoln Park’s Fall Fest. If you’re looking for something closer to campus, you can pie a student in the North Damen Lawn. There will be a food and drink sampling crawl through Northalsted’s top restaurants, and a stream of runners Oct. 12 for The Chicago Marathon.
Pie-A-Fella: Oct. 1-2
If you have $5 for a pie but don’t want to eat it, head to the North Damen Lawn to throw that pie in another person’s face. The event is hosted by the Loyola AcaFellas. Students must bring $5 cash.
Apple Fest: Oct. 3-5.
Looking for a weekend filled with fall festivities? Lincoln Square is hosting their annual Apple Fest free of charge. The festival will be everything apple, from baked goods to refreshing cider. The event will be accompanied by local musicians and vendors serving fall essentials. Donations are encouraged.
Food and Drink Sampling Crawl: Oct. 4
Explore new refreshments and flavorful dishes at the annual Taste of Northalsted. Crawlers have access to 20 of Northalsted’s top restaurants. Pick one of six starting locations to begin your tasteful journey with friends from 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $30 and attendees must be 21-plus.
Lincoln Park Fall Fest: Sept. 26 – Oct. 26
Pick the perfect pumpkin and toast s’mores at Lincoln Park’s fire pits during the fall fest. There will be rides, musical entertainers and special events each week. As the leaves change, the gardens will be decorated for the season. Look out for the creations of professional pumpkin carvers.
Rocky Horror Picture Show Screening: Oct. 11
R Public House in Jarvis Square will be hosting a free movie night at 7:30 p.m. for classic film lovers. Dress to impress, prizes will be given for best costumes!
Chicago Marathon: Oct. 12
Find a spot to watch and cheer on amateur and elite runners as the Chicago marathon snakes through the city Oct. 12. The marathon will be the 46th hosted by the city and span from Wrigleyville to Bridgeport.
Paige Dillinger is a second-year political science and english double major from Austin, TX, and has been writing for The Phoenix since her first month at Loyola. Her journalism favorites include local politics and investigative stories. She enjoys sunshine on a crisp winter day, movies with scores by John Williams, scoffing at prices in antique stores and SNL when it’s good.
