With only two moons until All Hallows’ Eve, The Phoenix has compiled a list of the most sinister haunts on the North Side. The Illinois Public Interest Research Group is hosting a reverse trick or treating the day before Halloween. Run from the horrors as Chase Park’s haunted house, Motherland Cafe’s Pharaoh night or attend the Halstead Halloween Parade on the spookiest day of the year. On Nov. 1, which is All Saints’ Day and El Dia de los Muertos, enjoy Chicago home movie showings and the Three Cities Market featuring clothing, food and music.
Reverse Trick or Treating: Oct. 30
The Illinois Public Interest Research Group is hosting a spooky petitioning event in the Environmental Science Building atrium. Join other students to protest for a safer, cleaner, energy campaign from 4-6 p.m. Costumes are encouraged!
The Park After Dark at Chase Park: Oct. 31
Chase Park will be transformed into a heart-pounding race for survival though an old theater this Halloween. A new haunted house is constructed every year, this year’s titled “Blood Sacrafice.” The event costs $13 to raise money for the Chase Park after school teen program.
Haunted Halstead Halloween Parade: Oct. 31
The 28th annual Halloween parade is returning to Northalstead, Chicago’s famous LGBTQ+ neighborhood. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., visitors can watch the parade and take part in the costume contest festival, featuring hundreds of participants competing in one of the five different costume categories for over $4,000 in cash prizes. Emmy-winning makeup artist and drag superstar RAVEN will serve as Grand Marshal and Costume Contest Host for the 2025 parade and festival. Dress to impress. Sign up to join the contest.
Pharaoh Night: Oct. 31
Motherland Cafe will be hosting their own unique Halloween night, transforming their cafe into a spooky oasis from 6-9 p.m. The event includes everything Halloween: a Halloween-themed menu, live DJ, photobooth, tarot readings, face paint and more. All costumes are welcome — the three best dressed will be awarded!
Three Cities Market: Nov. 1
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Three Cities Social is hosting a community pop-up market in Wicker Park. Visitors can come browse through over 30 vendors, featuring art, food, clothing and other homemade goods. Come with friends to enjoy music, coffee and shopping with no entry fee required.
Chicago Home Movie Day: Nov. 1
The Chicago Film Archives and Chicago Film Society is hosting a home movie day at the Chicago History Museum. From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., visitors can bring in personal home movies and watch their childhood memories come to life on screen through 16mm, 8mm, or Super 8 film. The films will be accompanied by live pianist David Drazin.
