Chicago sports were treated with three Bulls wins, a Bears win and a Stars win but let down by a Bulls loss, two Blackhawks losses and a loss for the Chicago Fire which eliminated them from the playoffs.
The Bears secured the win, 47-42, after a scary fourth-quarter comeback from the Bengals.
In the first quarter, the Bengals started off the game with a touchdown from kick returner Charlie Jones after a 98-yard kickoff return and a successful extra point. The Bears followed shortly after with a touchdown pass from wide receiver DJ Moore to quarterback Caleb Williams.
The second quarter started with the Bengals in the lead, 10-7, but not for long as the Bears scored another touchdown after a pass from Williams to wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus and a successful extra point. Back-to-back field goals offered points to each team. The quarter ended with a 44-yard touchdown from Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, keeping them in the lead.
The third quarter started with a short five-yard touchdown from the Bears. The Bengals followed by scoring a touchdown after a pass from quarterback Joe Flacco to Higgins. The Bears ended the quarter leading 31-27, with another touchdown from running back Brittian Brown, rushing 22 yards.
To keep the lead in the fourth quarter, the Bears scored a field goal, a touchdown and an extra point, bringing the score up to 41-27 with about five minutes left in the game.
With a minute and a half left in the game, Flacco threw a touchdown and followed it with a two-point conversion.
After a recovered onside kick and with 54 seconds left in the game, Flacco threw another touchdown to tie the game at 41. The Bengals took the lead after the extra point.
With 17 seconds left in the game and fans thinking the game was over, Williams threw an impressive 58-yard touchdown to tight end Colston Loveland for the Bears to win the game 47-42.
Week three for the Bulls consisted of wins against the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings and the New York Knicks and a loss against the Knicks.
A close game of 128-123 had the Bulls winning over the Hawks on Oct. 27, with 21 points from guard Ayo Dosunmu.
The first quarter ended with the Hawks in the lead at 35-27. In the second quarter, the Hawks still held the lead by one at 58-57.
The third quarter was important for the Bulls as they scored 41 points and gained a lead of 98-91. The fourth quarter stayed close, with the Bulls scoring 30 points and the Hawks scoring 31 with a final score of 128-123.
In their game against the Kings Wednesday, they took a win of 125-113 with guard Coby White scoring 35 points.
Sacramento led the first quarter 39-28 and kept it throughout the second quarter, ending the first half with a score of 64-55. The Bulls started to gain some momentum in the third, scoring 37 points and keeping the Hawks to 25. This gave them a slight lead heading into the fourth quarter, where they scored 36 points to win the game.
The Bulls’ first game against the Knicks was successful, with a win of 135-125. The Bulls held the lead in every quarter, helping secure the win.
Their second game against the Knicks wasn’t as successful as they lost 128-116. The Knicks started with a 34-24 lead, which they kept throughout the game. This was the Bulls’ first loss of the season.
The Chicago Stars won their match against the Los Angeles Angel City FC 2-1 Sunday for their first win in six games.
In the first half, Angel City’s right back Miyabi Moriba scored a goal in the 23rd minute. In the 49th minute, Stars’ forward Jameese Joseph scored a goal to tie the game. In the eighth extra minute, forward Ally Schlegel scored a goal for the Stars to win the game 2-1.
The Chicago Fire lost against the Philadelphia Union Sunday, 3-0, removing them from the Major League Soccer playoffs.
The Union scored all of its goals in the first half. Their first two goals came from striker Tai Baribo in the eighth minute and the 16th minute. Striker Bruno Damiani scored their final goal in the 35th minute.
The second half was less eventful, with only two yellow cards to the Fire’s midfielder Djé D’Avilla in the 63rd minute and midfielder Maren Haile-Selassie.
The Chicago Blackhawks lost both of their games this past week. Taking a 3-2 loss against the Edmonton Oilers which went into overtime and a 3-1 loss against the Seattle Kraken.
Their next game is Nov. 5 against the Vancouver Canucks at 9 p.m.. The Bears will face the New York Giants Nov. 9 at 12 p.m..
