Since 1986, American Girl Dolls have been a staple in the lives of young girls nationwide, teaching them important life lessons and historical events. Each American Girl Doll tells a different story and represents a unique American perspective, whether it be from the War of 1812 or the Great Depression.
Much like the stark difference between college majors, American Girls are diverse and unique to personal experience. So which dolls match up with which major?
NURSING: Much like Josephina, nursing majors are kind, patient and willing to help. Josephina has dreams of becoming a healer, and trains under her grandmother to pursue her dream.
PSYCHOLOGY: Psychology majors are smart, intuitive and hard working. Caroline reflects all of these ideals through her day to day life. Like psych majors, Caroline is diligent and prone to sensing emotions and has a wish to help others.
BIOLOGY: Biology majors are meticulous and intelligent, like Elizabeth. Elizabeth takes private classes and is known for being intelligent and careful in her work. Both biology majors and Elizabeth are very put-together and seem to have everything under control, but still love to have fun.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE: Environmental science majors are outdoorsy and naturally curious, much like Kaya. Kaya grew up on the Nez Perce reservation and spends her time caring for animals and exploring the outdoors. Both Kaya and environmental science majors care greatly for nature and the people around them.
CYBERSECURITY: Julie is a modern and fun-loving girl who is adjusting to the technological changes and innovations in her day to day life. Like cybersecurity majors, Julie is smart and detail-oriented. She enjoys having fun and values creativity.
CHEMISTRY: Grace focuses on the little things and wants to be a baker. Like chemistry majors, Grace is naturally inquisitive and focuses on the parts making up a whole, rather than the product.
COMPUTER SCIENCE: Like computer science majors, Courtney is independent and intelligent. She loves playing video games and hopes to become a game designer one day. Both computer science majors and Courtney love the new possibilities brought by technology and are great at completing tasks in a short amount of time.
MATH: Like McKenna, math majors are precise and immaculate in their work. For her, timing and calculations are everything in her gymnastics. Math majors are out-of-the-box thinkers and highly intelligent, just like McKenna.
BIOINFORMATICS: Felicity is a daring and independent person, much like bioinformatics majors. They’re kind and intelligent, and not worried about branching out to learn new things.
BIOCHEMISTRY: Best friends with Felicity, Kira is curious and bold. Like biochem majors, Kira is dedicated to learning and making connections. Kira aspires to become a scientist and help animals.
BUSINESS: Hardworking and stubborn, both Kirsten and business majors strive to create opportunity out of their surroundings with a pioneering spirit and a willingness to try new things, both in the community and in their education.
POLITICAL SCIENCE: Molly is outspoken and cunning, much like political science majors. Watching her world be affected by World War 2, Molly showcases her knowledge of politics by raising awareness for those affected by the war and its political implications. Political science majors are thoughtful and stand up firmly for the things they believe in.
EDUCATION: Addy is a community oriented and caring girl who finds a love for teaching for others. Like education majors, Addy is brave and willing to put education and helping others in front of her own needs. She values integrity and persistence.
ENGLISH: Isabel, who is named after Jane Austen, is an outgoing and creative person who enjoys thinking about the future. Like English majors, she’s headstrong and lively. She loves to communicate and connect with others.
JOURNALISM: Kit dreams of becoming a reporter and is dedicated to providing accurate information and news to those around her. Like journalism majors, Kit is bright and outgoing, and she loves learning new things.
HISTORY: Raquel is the great-granddaughter of Samantha and values family history more than anything. Like history majors, she’s spunky and intelligent and isn’t afraid to put some elbow grease into working hard in her classes.
THEATER: Rebecca perfectly encapsulates the theater major. Outgoing and joyful, both Rebecca and theater folks see the good in every situation and are always willing to put a smile on people’s faces.
STUDIO ART: Brought up during the Harlem Renaissance, Claudie is creative and joyful. Though Claudie sometimes worries about her lack of talent, she embraces the art major mindset by finding creativity and beauty in even the smallest of places.
