The women’s golf team traveled to George, Utah, for the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah University, March 6-8. The Ramblers landed sixth out of nine teams with a total score of 917 strokes (304-303-310).

Taking the top team spot was Weber State University with a score of 866 strokes (296-281-289). After the 54-hole tournament, University of Wyoming first-year Kate Reisner (75-69-70) and Stetson University second-year Isaki Sakashita (72-70-72) were tied with a total of 214 strokes. Reisner grabbed the title after beating Sakashita in a playoff hole.

For the Ramblers, first-year Teagan Connors took a tie for 16th place with a score of 225 strokes (75-73-77), marking a career-best. In her second round, she recorded four bogeys and three birdies, landing her a one-over par round score.

Head coach Brandy Johnston noted Connor’s impressive performance.

“The play of Connors has been a highlight of the past two tournaments,” Johnston said. “She posted a new 54-hole career best score in Arizona and then beat it again this week. Her career as a Rambler is off to a very promising start.”

Third-year Cassie Psuik finished the tournament with a total of 230 strokes (80-73-77) and in a tie for 23rd. A double bogey, a bogey and two birdies left her second round score at one-over par as well.

One stroke behind Psuik, second-year Madison Haugen landed in a tie for 26th with a score of 231 (71-78-82). Her first round score of one-under par marked a career-best round and consisted of three bogeys and four birdies.

Tied for 26th with Haugen was second-year Grace Hui also with 231 strokes (78-79-74). In her third round, a double bogey, three bogeys and three birdies left her with a round score of two-over par.

Lastly, third-year Grace Durkin finished with a score of 252 strokes (88-81-83) and in a tie for 56th place. Two double bogeys and five bogeys gave her a second round score of nine-over par.

Johnston noted the individual success of the team during this tournament, but added there’s still room for improvement as a team.

“We had some great individual rounds this week,” Johnston said. “One player under par, plus a couple other rounds under 75, but we need to improve our consistency if we want to be more successful as a group.”

The Ramblers head to Nashville, Tenn. March 23-24 for the Nashville Invitational hosted by Lipscomb University.
